Native to southern India, citronella is an herbaceous plant of the Poaceae family. It grows in the tropical regions of Asia, including China and Vietnam, as well as in Nepal, Africa and the Antilles. The plant forms dense clumps that can grow as high as 1.5 meters and emits an odor similar to lemon.
Often limited to its repellent properties, citronella essential oil is nonetheless a highly anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and purifying essential oil. Rich in citronellal, geraniol, citronellol, geranyl acetate and limonene, it has a sweet, floral, rosy, lemony aroma, ideal for both food and perfume applications.
