Native to southern India, citronella is an herbaceous plant of the Poaceae family. It grows in the tropical regions of Asia, including China and Vietnam, as well as in Nepal, Africa and the Antilles. The plant forms dense clumps that can grow as high as 1.5 meters and emits an odor similar to lemon. 

Often limited to its repellent properties, citronella essential oil is nonetheless a highly anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and purifying essential oil. Rich in citronellal, geraniol, citronellol, geranyl acetate and limonene, it has a sweet, floral, rosy, lemony aroma, ideal for both food and perfume applications.

HOW TO USE CITRONELLA ESSENTIAL OIL AGAINST MOSQUITOES?
Lemongrass has always been identified as a powerful natural repellent to fight mosquitoes. Its molecules contain active ingredients that destabilize the nervous system of insects. It is known that the latter hate the acidulous odors, the main property of lemongrass.

To relieve mosquito bites, this lotion uses its antihistamine virtue. Indeed, after a bite, the white blood cell produces histamine to block the effects of saliva from these insects. This process causes a small swelling on the affected area. The essential oil of lemongrass intervenes to limit the action of histamine to prevent the appearance of edema. In return, it stimulates the body to produce natural corticosteroids. The latter are natural anti-inflammatory hormones.

This type of essential oil is more effective by diffusion. For this method, a diffuser must be used. If this device is not accessible, a candle will do. So you have to pour a few drops in the diffuser or on the candle.

Normally, the smell spreads through the air and permeates the whole room. Whenever its effect fades, it is necessary to renew the dosage. This method can also be used in synergy with other essential oils to stimulate its effects. For 60 drops of this solution, you can put 60 drops of essential oil of Combava, 20 drops of essential oil of Cinnamon and 15 drops of essential oil of Peppermint.

By the skin, citronella essential oil can repel mosquitoes. The product should be applied to the exposed area every 3-4 hours. It is also possible to impregnate the clothes and cover the exposed areas of the body. If you have sensitive skin, the best way is to dilute the lotion with other vegetable oils. In 20 ml of these, the dosage is 2 ml of essential oil lemongrass for an adult and 0.6 ml for a child.

For an optimal effect, it is advisable to use this lotion in combination with other types of essential oil. With 40 drops, it is necessary to add 40 drops of essential oil of Combava and 20 drops of essential oil of Geranium Rosat. You should also add 40 drops of peppermint essential oil and 90 drops of argan vegetable oil to this mixture.

    Originally from Asia, the lemongrass plant is actually a large herb that is found in warm and humid regions. The botanical family of cymbopogon includes many species. The essential oil of lemongrass is obtained by steam distillation of lemongrass herbs. It takes about 100kg of grass to obtain 1.5kg of essential oil.
